TANGO is an open source software framework for building distributed control systems, developed collaboratively by an international community of research institutions and supported by a network of industrial partners

Observatory Sciences develops software based on the TANGO controls framework, from support for single pieces of hardware to complex control systems and bespoke graphical user interfaces.

Central to TANGO is the concept of a device server, which is an application handling one element of the control system, such as one item of hardware or a component of a machine. The TANGO framework provides an interface to monitor and control device servers running on different platforms distributed over a network. Information about all the device servers in a control system is stored in a central database.
